Jeanette M. Metcalf went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the age of 88, almost exactly 3 years after the passing of her beloved husband of 70 years ,Charles B. Metcalf, Jr. She peacefully passed away with family members at her side in Birmingham, Alabama, where she moved 3 years ago to be near family. She was born November 19, 1937, in Gulfport, MS. She was affectionally known by all as Jeanette, Mom, Grandmother, Nana, and Mrs. Metcalf. Jeanette met the love of her life, Charles, at The Dog House in Gulfport and it was love at first sight. They married on February 7, 1953, in Gulfport, MS.
Jeanette is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Metcalf; her brother, David Vandemark; brother, Robert Ladner; and sister, Danah Bunch.
Jeanette is survived by her loving sister, Judy Wilson (Doug), her daughter, Debbie Hallford (Donald), her son Randy Metcalf, and her youngest daughter Nancy Gray (Brad). Jeanette was the very proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren: Jason Hallford, Lauren Hallford, Tyler Hallford, Collin Metcalf (Katerina), Paxton Metcalf (Sabrina), Madison Metcalf Basford (Dylan), C. Bradley Gray (Charlotte), William Gray (Emily) and Catherine Gray. She was also the Great Grandmother (Nana) of Davis and Lewis Metcalf, sons of Paxton and Sabrina Metcalf, Marvin Metcalf, son of Collin and Kat Metcalf, Grafton Gray, son of William and Emily Gray, and Elsie Gray, daughter of Bradley and Charlotte Gray. Jeanette deeply loved her children, grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Her influence and love and care for her family will be felt for generations. Her love was most evident in her relationship with her husband Charles, shown through her devotion throughout their 70 years
of marriage. Jeanette was always by “Chuck’s” side, supporting him and giving him guidance, instruction and direction! Early in their marriage, Jeanette worked outside of the home to support them while Charles completed his college degree at the University of Houston. The Gulf Coast area was home to Jeanette and Charles throughout their marriage. Their three children were born in Houston, Pascagoula, and Pensacola. They eventually settled in Pensacola, Florida on Swan Lane, then built a home in Pine Forest Estates where they spent the next 50 years. Jeanette was alongside Charles as he started his business, CB Metcalf Co, serving large industrial companies along the Gulf Coast. Jeanette worked in the business in accounting roles and controller of the cash flow. Their CBM family was very dear to them. Jeanette and Charles loved living in Pensacola and were active in the community and church. Jeanette was a long-time member of the Pensacola Junior Women’s Club. They were both avid bridge players and enjoyed couples bridge together - and Jeanette was in several ladies’ bridge groups. They attended Hillcrest Baptist for many years and worked with the youth group and then were involved at First Baptist Church in Pensacola for 40 years. They loved their church community and friends so much - such an important part of their lives and the way they raised their family. Jeanette loved family events and cooking meals for her family and friends. Over the decades her holiday meals became the focal point for family events. They purchased a home on Pensacola Beach in 1979 and expanded it in 1996 and this home became a gathering spot for friends and family. Jeanette and Charles were known for the annual July 4th celebration and shrimp boil, and for hosting Blue Angel Show parties and watching the jets from the Crow’s Nest. They had strong relationships with many cherished friends in Pensacola and loved to travel the world! At the age of 75, Jeanette became paralyzed from the waist down, which created many challenges for her, but she attacked these challenges with grace and toughness while always maintaining a grateful attitude for the life she was able to live. Jeanette deeply loved her family, and her family deeply loved her for her godly, generous, gracious, kind spirit. Her family will always remember her steadfast faith in Jesus. We are most grateful for the loving care she received in both Pensacola for so many years and in Birmingham these past 3 years.
