Jerry Foster Shofner passed away Saturday, Dec 28, 2024. Though the past few years have been difficult for him, he will be remembered as a man who loved people with a compassionate and kind heart. He was a hard worker and extremely generous.
He was born in Holt FL and lived most of his life in Pensacola, growing up in the Brownsville community. He was the former owner of R.N Pyle Mechanical Contractors and was a faithful member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 234. He also served on the Board of Directors of Whitney Bank at their inception in Pensacola. He was a proud Marine stationed in Japan in his younger years. He had an affinity for antique cars, motorcycles, the Blue Ridge Mountains and his love for music.
He was the son of Howard and Alma Shofner and the brother of Jimmy and Janice. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Channell Shofner, who passed away in 2020 and his daughter Robin Byrd who passed away in 2016. He is survived by daughters Cherie (Scott) Lee of Fairhope AL and Shelley (Marty) Messer of Milton FL. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Chase Byrd, Smyrna GA, Taylor (Daniel) Lee Gardner, Daphne AL, Tanner (Abby) Lee, Georgetown TX, Parker (Jordan) Byrd, Matthews NC, Cooper Messer, Milton FL, Harley Messer, Milton FL and Emma Messer, Milton FL. He also leaves 4 great grandchildren, Wyn and Mattie Gardner, Josiah Lee and Finley Byrd.
A Memorial Service will be held at Bayview/Fisher Pou Chapel on January 15, 2025 at 11:00 am. The family will greet guest prior to the service. The family extends their deepest thanks for the wonderful care at the Blake of Pensacola and Vitas Hospice Care.
