He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 62 years, Phyllis M. Brendlinger and his two children, Diane G. Johnson (Joseph) and Jamie G. Irwin (David). John had been blessed with 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren who he cherished very much. He is also survived by brothers, Elder Greene, Ralph Greene and sister, Kathy Bennett. John was born April 11, 1938 in Homer City, PA to parents, Ralph E. and Loella M. Greene. John received his draft notice for the US Army and instead chose to join the Air Force in Oct. 1960, never thinking at that time of making it a career for 43 years. His duty assignments were McGuire AFB, NJ, Evruex-Fauville, France, Albrook AFB and Howard AFB, Panama Canal Zone, Kunsan AFB, Republic of Korea and Langley AFB, VA. Mr. Greene started his Civilian Service career in 1982 as the HQ Tactical Air Command War Reserve Material (WRM) Officer, where he was literally known throughout the world as “Mr. WRM”. He was credited for the development of most of the WRM policies that are in use today. He was credited for the development and sustainment of the Air Force System known as Logistics Feasibility Analysis Capability (LOGFAC) System. Mr. Greene’s contribution to the United States Air Force has been critical to the defense of the United States, as proven by the Air Force’s ability to mobilize and operate around the world quickly due to readiness of WRM. This was further proven by the numerous contingency operations such as DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM, URGENT FURY, NOBLE ANVIL and IRAQI FREEDOM. Mr. Greene received numerous accolades including: Letters of Commendation, Performance Awards, Air Force Productivity Award, Senior Logistics Planner of the Years, Outstanding Civilian Service Award, Air Force Meritorious Service Medals, Air Force Commendation Medals and, upon Civilian Service retirement, was presented the Order of the Sword by the Air Force Enlisted Personnel. First and foremost, John was a loving family man and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was very happy being surrounded by his extended family and friends, and keeping up with his grandchildren’s activities. He was in the Fraternal Order of the Elks (PER) and Fraternal Order of the Moose and was service minded within the community. John was a Baptist by faith and attended Eglin AFB Chapel.
