A proud Cajun farm boy, John was born January, 30 1946 to Raoul and Justine (Leger) Savoie in Bristol, Louisiana. He was the eleventh of twelve siblings.
Many friends referred to John as “JP.” He also appreciated his nickname “Frenchie,” given to him by fellow service members.
John was a proud Veteran, having served over 20 years with the United States Army. He served as both a Combat Engineer and an Administrative Specialist. Through his time in service, John found a love for seeing the world, with tours in Korea and Germany.
After retiring with the United States Army, John began his second career with the American Red Cross, through which he served as a Station Manager. He was able to expand his worldliness, having assisted service members and their families in Saudi Arabia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Diego Garcia, Germany, and Korea. John moved back to the Panhandle in 2008 after his second retirement with the American Red Cross.
A devout Catholic, John was a dedicated member of Hurlburt Field Chapel for over a decade. He relied heavily on his faith.
Some of John’s favorite pastimes were of course traveling, admiring his beloved Audi T.T., smoking cigars, golfing, playing poker, eating great food, telling dad jokes, sporting his infamous red jacket, and jamming out to Boogie Woogie.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Raoul and Justine (Leger) Savoie, and siblings, Rodney Savoie, Lee Savoy, Jean Savoy, Whitney Savoie, Mary Georgie Savoie, Levie Savoie, Percy Savoie, and Anthony Savoie.
