Joseph William Peklo, 81, of Pensacola, Florida died suddenly September 13, 2010 at his home on Pensacola Beach.
Born September 9, 1929 in Long Island, New York. Joe was a 1951 graduate of the University of Florida. He was a retired merchandise manager at Sears in Pensacola and was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic church. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, a member of the Alabama Gun Collection Association and the Ohio Valley Military Society, Inc.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Peklo, his wife of 54 years Marilyn Murdock Peklo and his granddaughter Mary Beth Sledge.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Shirley Curran Peklo, his children, Joseph William Peklo, Jr. (Geneva), Patricia “Susie” Peklo Newburn (Larry), Sandy Peklo Chandler (Rob), Debbie Peklo Lingner (Larry), Karen Peklo Deane (John), and his sister Mildred Peklo Riley, his grandchildren, Joseph Peklo III, Nicholas and Patrick Newburn, Lawrence Lingner Jr., Roby Chandler and John Matthew Deane, his stepchildren Russell Gregory Curran (Kathy) and Shannon Lee Grimes (Jay); step grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Curran and Ryan and Shane Grimes; great grandchild, Kira Curran.
He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael Nixon as celebrant.
Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Larry Newburn, Robert Chandler, Lawrence Lingner, John Deane, Joseph Peklo III and Burt Graham.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m.
