

Kathleen Susan (Harkins) Shelton-Lowe was born on January 12, 1952, in Lynchburg, Virginia. Her family moved frequently during her childhood until they moved to Garland, Texas in February, 1966. Kathleen graduated from Garland High School in 1970. She earned her Bachelor degree from the University of Texas at Austin and later earned her Master's degree from East Texas A&M University.
Kathleen spent her career teaching science, first in Texas and later at as a Professor at Pensacola State College where she taught until she retired. She loved teaching and she enjoyed helping her students academically and advising them regarding dealing with life's challenges. Another thing she enjoyed was organizing trips for her students so that she could show them physical demonstrations of what she taught them. She was also an active member in the Geology club & loved her students dearly.
She moved to Pensacola because it was her lifelong desire to live on a beach. She bought a home on Pensacola Beach and lived there until Hurricane Ivan destroyed her beach house twenty years ago. She relocated to her husband's home on Navy Point which is where she lived the rest of her life.
Her husband, Louis Lowe, predeceased her. She is survived by: her daughter Christi and her husband Mike and their daughter Kailee; Kathleen's brother Mike and his wife Brenda, brother Eric, brother Carl, brother Mark and his wife Carole; Kathleen's nephews and nieces and their spouses are Travis and Sara, Marshall and Nicole, Caley and Stephen, Tyler, Bethany, Benjamin and Megan, Angelina, Kayla and Kevin, Rochell and Curtis, Camile and Shane, and Courtney and Kevin; Grand nephews and nieces are Emmanuel and Sarah, Zane, Gideon, Shalom, Reuben, Jubilee, Felix, Ella, Asher, Rhodes, Rowan, Zeal, Kaylee, and Mikayla, Brianna & Cooper ; Great nephews and nieces Evelyn, Sophia, Shane, and Rosilee; Aunt Susie and cousins Randall and Erica.
Kathleen was a kind and generous person who all of us will miss until we join her in Heaven. She frequently helped people in need and donated food and other items to the needy.
She loved animals and had many dogs and cats as pets through the years. She faithfully kept her bird feeder full and enjoyed seeing the birds. She was also a regular donor to the local animal shelter.
In her younger days she was a good seamstress and she made dresses for her friends. She was also a good cook who enjoyed trying out new recipes. She was an active member of her high school drill team and had fun practicing and performing their dance routines with her friends.
She loved sun bathing and watching the Blue Angels practicing their flying stunts because her house was directly under their flight patterns. She also enjoyed watching movies and football, especially her Texas Longhorns. She was a perfectionist when it came to wrapping presents and other people would ask her for help doing it.
Kathleen was a member of Warrington Baptist Church. We know she is with Jesus now because she gave her heart to Him. Kathleen left this earth on December 16, 2024. She was 72 years old.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday January 18th, 2025 at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church, 6205 North W St, Pensacola Florida - Visitation will be from 11am-12pm, Service starting at 12pm, followed by a Friends & Family Social gathering at 1:30pm at Felix's on Pensacola Beach, 400 Quietwater Beach Rd Pensacola Beach. Dress is casual as we want you to be comfortable. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Pensacola Humane Society pensacolahumane.org/donate.
