

Senior Chief Mayton was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania and spent his youth there through high school. He joined the Navy in 1955. After completing Radioman "A" School, he served on the USS Holder DDE819 to finish out his first four years. After a six month separation he reenlisted and attended Cryptographic Repair School at Portsmouth, Virginia, after which he was transferred to Naval Communication Station, San Miguel, Philippines where he served as both cryptographic and teletype repairman. He also served on the USS Hector AR7, USS Estes AGC12, USS Kawishiwi, AO146, Naval Communication Station, Greece, Defence Language Institute, Monterey California where he studied the Spanish and Portuguese languages, followed by a tour of duty at the Naval Communication Technical Group, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He ended his Naval career putting the USS Nimitz in commission and making one last overseas trip to northern Europe. After retiring Kenneth used the GI Bill and got his Bachelor's Degree at California State University, Pennsylvania. He then received a scholarship to Ball State University where he earned his Masters Degree in Technology Education. He then took a teaching position at California State University, Los Angeles. He then got a scholarship to the University of Maryland where he completed all course work and ended up ABA towards his PHD.
At Kenneth's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. His ashes will be interred at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS, Pensacola, Florida.
