Loretta Marie Mason

Beloved wife and sister, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Loretta Marie Mason, age 81, of Pensacola, FL passed into God’s hands on November 13, 2014. She was born in Tickles, Newfoundland on September 10, 1933. She married Sidney Sawyer and welcomed sons, Alan & William, after the unfortunate passing of Sidney & Alan. She married her devoted husband of 40 ½ years, Harold “Dewey” Mason on May 10, 1956 in Hagerstown, MD.

As the matriarch of the Mason family, her greatest legacy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Loretta was quick with a joke, a helping hand, and a fly swatter to the behind of an unruly child. Known to most as simply, “Grams,” she was loved and honored by all that were lucky enough to know her (and even revered by those treated to her seven layer cookies and pot roast!) She was famously known for her love of Elvis, dancing, the Atlanta Braves, and spoiling certain grandchildren.

Loretta is survived by loving sons, William & Carrie Sawyer of Calloway, FL and Harold & Donna Mason, of Valparaiso, FL, grandchildren, Alan Mason, Sonia & Sirron Mason, Samantha & Rick Pressley, Cami & Pete Bruns, Sheila & Eric Zanco, Harold & Kayla Mason, Sara Mason, Anthony & Stephanie Mason, Adam Mason, and Destiny Mason. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Daniel, Sara, Destyn, Austin, Kobe, Korre, Tyler, Alan II, Sydney, Savanna, Dylan, Cody, Marcus, Piper, Jasiah, and Aubrey. Loretta is also survived by sister, Marg Ryan and Anna & Joe Frank.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Alan Sawyer and Wayne Mason, granddaughters, Shayna Mason and Rosemary D. Carr, and siblings Edward, Isabel, Fergus, Fredrick, William, Catherine, James, and Dennis.

Gram's smile, iron will, and vivaciousness will carry on in the lives she deeply touched. She was also a beloved honorary grandmother to Mason Rhea & Racheal Prosser, April & Addison Pawless, and Jonathan “JJ” Hardy
