Lu Laqua

IRENE “LU” STEJSKAL LAQUA passed away peacefully in Pensacola, Florida on October 29, 2013. She had been living in Florida for the past 1½ years to be near her two children and their families. Irene Lu was born to Antonia Oborny and Louis Stejskal on April 17, 1933 in Timken, Kansas. She moved to Wichita, Kansas to attend high school when she was 13 and lived there off and on for most of her life when she wasn’t traveling with her husband, Fred Laqua, who was an engineer, which allowed them to move around the country for many years until they returned to Wichita permanently.

Irene Lu was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Laqua, and her sisters and brothers, Anna Hamrdla, Betty Richardson Buchanan, Elsie McGrath, Edward Stejskal, Eleanor Snellen, Leonard Stejskal and Rudy Stejskal. She is survived by her daughter, Claire Laqua Hamblin and husband, Arthur; son, Cale Laqua and wife, Tiffany; brother, Larry Stejskal and wife Betty; grandchildren Shelbi Burgett and husband Brandon, Alex Lamoreaux, and La’Niyah Bryant-Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews, who all loved her dearly.

A visitation will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 861 N. Socora St., Wichita, KS 67212 on Monday, November 04, 2013 at 6:30pm, with a rosary at 7:30pm. The funeral mass will be held at the church on Tuesday, November 05, 2013 at 10am. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
