Just minutes after coming into the world, Lydia Kate passed away in the loving hands of the medical team at Sacred Heart Health System in Pensacola, Florida. During that fleeting time, she touched many lives and created a profound effect on all who met her.
Born at 26 weeks gestation, Lydia was delivered emergently via cesarean section due to placental abruption. Although the cause was initially unclear, we later discovered Lydia was infected by a bacterial pathogen called Listeria. This infection caused multiple things to happen to Lydia that was incompatible with life. The courageous team of physicians and nurses did everything in their power to save her, but the circumstances present were beyond their control. Lydia was born with her mother’s features, displaying a gently curved nose, pouty lips, and dark vibrant hair. She was born at 4:38 a.m. on November 25th and died soon after at 5:00 am.
Lydia is now cradled by her heavenly Father, who knew her and named her before she was born. She is survived by her earthly mother and father, Kathrine and Aaron Wallender; her sister, Eliana Wallender; her grandparents, Calvin and Kathleen Flynn; and her grandparents, Wayne and Dorothy Wallender.
A memorial service will take place at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel on December 2nd at 9:30 a.m. Flowers and condolences may be sent to Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway. The family would like to thank the Sacred Heart Health System staff for their effort and dedication.
