Mae was born on May 6, 1935, in Asheville, North Carolina, where she grew up. She and her husband, Don Haynes, moved to Pensacola, Florida, in 1957. After the death of her late husband Robert Southgate New, Sr., she lived with her daughter and son in law, Vicki and Mike Campbell.
As a young woman Mae worked at the Weather Bureau in Asheville and after moving to Pensacola, she worked at Bon Marche but for most of her life she worked as a homemaker – her home was always spotless and beautifully decorated. She enjoyed making things nice for her family, especially during the holidays.
She was actively involved with her family and friends. In her younger years she loved spending time on the beaches of Pensacola and Perdido Key with her husband, family and friends. She also enjoyed fishing, archery, hunting, cooking, bird watching and spoiling her grandson and her pets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Lily Ogle; husband, Robert Southgate New, Sr.; son, Leslie Lee Haynes; brothers, Paul Albert Ogle, Ray Ogle, Bernice J. Ogle and Johnny P. Ogle; sisters, Betty Salyer, Margaret Lee, Eloise Ogle and Helen Presley, niece, Tammy Gray and nephews, Danny Ogle and John Gray Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Haynes Campbell; son-in-law Michael Allen Campbell; grandson Cody Allen Campbell; brother, Billy Ogle; sister, Thelma Gray and dozens of nieces and nephews all of whom she loved very dearly including Samantha Finney who helped care for Mae over the last year.
Mae had a beautiful smile and people gravitated to that beautiful smile. Even in her final years with Dementia she kept her family and the staff of the Waterford at Creekside laughing and smiling. She had the most giving heart and passed the importance of giving on to her family.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Waterford at Creekside, the staff of Santa Rosa Medical Facility and the staff of Gentiva Hospice-Pensacola for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days.
