My favorite memory of Marie Elena is how egregious she was, introducing hugging to the Burbachs. She was so effective in making people feel welcome and relaxed.
Our youngest Gdaughter is not named after Marie, but she does almost share her middle name, as she is "Eliana".
She just turned 5 a month ago, and she loves to give us hugs too, as well as all her aunts, uncles & cousins.

Marie was a dear friend of mine for thirty-six years.  We shared many special  and fun times together.  I will truly miss her!  Rest In Peace, Marie.  Your memory  lives on.




Even though Marie wasn’t technically my blood grandma, she never felt any less than that, a perfect, Loving Grandma. I remember at my graduation dinner she started to cry because I was about to leave to volunteer at a Christian camp in Michigan. Another one that I will never forget is just how she loved to just hug me and look up at me and just talk while still holding the embrace. My sister and I have always said that we wanted to have a Loving and caring marriage Like that of nana Marie and grandpa. She leaves an example of a self- sacrificing like of incredible generosity and sweetness. 

I knew Marie first from Scrapbooking and also from Xi Xi Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.  I have wonderful memories of time spent with her.  She was always friendly, kind, and fun.  We laughed often when we were together.  I cherish those memories.  

Marie Goss was the most loving and sweetest person I have ever met. She had a way of bringing out the very best in everyone she met.  A strong memory I will always cherish is how she always made our Holidays special. I will miss her always. I am truly Blessed to have been able to called her my Step Mother and have her in my life. Til I see her again, she will be missed. 

Judy and I had many pleasant times with Marie, serving on the board of the Pensacola Historic Preservation Society, doing 'date night' tours of the house, working with her at the Palafox Market, and many other times.    We continue to be isolated during this pandemic, but want Wally and the family to have our condolences and yet our happiness in having known such a wonderful, positive, and caring person as Marie!

I remember how loving she was to her grandkids. Always making sure to go out of her way to secure a hug, and hitting you with that cheek kiss when you got in close. You were in trouble if she sent a card and you forgot to call, because she always cared to hear from you and know how you were doing. I’m definitely going to miss her brand of inescapable love.

Marie was our beloved friend for almost 40 years.  There is no one any nicer or more loyal than Marie.  We have wonderful memories of our time together and she will never be forgotten.  

I remember when  you and my father wed. It was such a happy day for  our family.  To see my father smile again. You brought happiness to  everyone who knew you. You will be missed  tremendously. We love you always.  May you RIP.

Knowing Marie was special for me.  We met when she was a student at Coker College in South Carolina in 1960, while I was stationed at US Navy Base Charleston.
One of her simple aspirations then for happiness in her life was a dream to live comfortably in a simple little cottage with a white picket fence.
The Burbach family accepted her with open arms and hearts, and she  in turn taught us how to close those arms, around her, as well as each other.  
Hugging was a mite intimate for us Badgers, but we adopted it  as a common routine, until it finally fell from favor again, for various reasons.
I pray that St. Peter has directed Angels to usher Marie Elena to that Heavenly Cottage, complete with white picket fence, for her eternal happiness as a neighbor of her/our Creator.
Rest peacefully from your earthly tribulations, Dear Marie Elena.

Wally and family,  I am so sorry for your loss.  I worked with Marie at Saufley Field and she was also a scrapbook companion. She always made the best chicken salad for crops and I miss her so.  Love and hugs to all of you ♥️

Marie and I became friends in the early 1980's.   She was more like a sister to me. We had such great times together whether at work or on our own times.  We loved going to the CPO Club at Saufley Field after work, especially on Friday evening's!  Of course that was many year's ago when we were both single 🤣!  She was a wonderful, loving, kind person who was Loved by everyone.  Marie we will miss you so much but know you're in a much better place my dear friend.   Until we meet again, RIP!! This world has lost a beautiful lady but Heaven has gained an angel!! 

She was always a fun, loving Aunt, who I loved to follow around when I was young. I will miss her alot!

I love you Marie! You are a rock! We will meet again. Go on to your next mission. In the meantime, I'll try to live my life using what you left me. Reliability, kindness, generosity. I know your family understands how much you were loved by everyone that got the pleasure of knowing you.

I worked with Marie for many years at Saufley Field.  She was a warm and caring person and friend.  Her smile and genuine care for everyone was amazing.  Our deepest sympathy And prayers  to Wally and family in this time of great loss.  

Ed and I are shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of this vital, busy  woman.  We know Marie and Wally as fellow members of the Pensacola Historic Preservation Society, where Marie served as President a few years ago.   We were looking forward to seeing them again once she had recovered and things had returned to some semblance of normal.  What a great loss!

Our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to Wally and family members.  Was fortunate to work with Marie at Saufley Field for many years and she always showed a genuine concern and interest in those around her.  Marie had a way of making true friends of her co-workers.  We are deeply saddened but will fondly treasure our memories of her.

Marie was such a special person.  There's no other way to put it.  It breaks my heart that this world is without her now.  I worked with her at Saufley Field, scrapbooked with her with the Scrapping Dutchesses of York, and was a Sorority Sister in Beta Sigma Phi.  No one had a sweeter spirit.  
I know her family is at a loss without her, and my thoughts and prayers are with them.  Wally, may God bless you.


I was fortunate to know Marie thru Pensacola Historic Preservation Society, to which she was a major contributor and a warm, friendly presence. From the beginning, she made me feel very welcome, and I’m glad we served on the board together.  

To Wally, her children, grandchildren, other family and closest friends, I am very sorry for your loss of this dear woman.

Marie and I have many mutual friends from our Civil Service days but I really got to know and love her when she joined our Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve.  She was a wonderful addition to our group and she will be sorely missed. Wally and family take care.

Marie was always cheerful and upbeat even though she was going through major health issues.  She will be greatly missed.  She was in our exercise group and indirectly responsible for my joining the group.  I am glad I got to know her.


Joe will always remember Marie sharing her roasted peppers with him. They always greeted each in Italian. 
I will always remember her wonderful sense of humor and the funny stories she could tell. She was a loving generous woman. We will miss her always. RIP Marie

Marie had and shared a wealth of knowledge about the military. She was always the "go to" person when there was a question about travel. She was a very sweet person everyone knew and loved. Rest in peace dear lady.

Dear Sis Marie,
Oh how I now regret my lack of recent communication with you!
I'm remembering the good times including when I was in the Navy assigned to the Sylvania at Naples and we were together there and later in Spain.
We went to the casbah in Tangier and you wore the Snake Charmer's pet as a necklace!
Thank You for Gracing the Burbach Family and I'm sure the Goss Family feels likewise.
