She never liked looking into coffins. It was one of the very few things she could not do as a mayor, even if the job demanded it. But she made up for it in more ways than you could imagine. Once, she overtook a provincial bus plying the national road that ran thru her town, motioned to the bus driver to pullover and even pulled up in front of the bus to force it to stop, and got on the bus demanding from its passengers, "who threw this wrapper out the window?" When the passenger culprit revealed himself, the mayor scolded him saying, "Littering in my town is a crime. If you want to pass thru my town, you go by my rules," and promptly returned the litter to its owner. She may never have liked looking into coffins, but it never stopped her from paying her last respects to those who kicked the bucket. To her embarrassment, she would request the aggrieved to just meet her by the door so she could express her condolences while profusely expressing her apologies. Now that her own time has come to pass, dying of a heart attack on Oct. 22, 2016 at the age of 71, Merle Escueta Alipon sincerely apologizes if she does not look into hers. Besides, she has already gotten on the bus that's taking her to our Creator.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
