
Michael grew up in Ogallala, Nebraska before moving with his family to Denver, Colorado at the age of thirteen. He graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in Colorado in 1967 and then went on to graduate from the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York in 1971.
He served in the US Navy for 20 years as a helicopter pilot and achieved the rank of Commander before retiring in 1991. Following his retirement from the US Navy he became a teacher at Pace High School in Pace, Florida. There he taught Advanced Placement Physics for 26 years until he retired in 2018. He inspired many young people to choose a challenging career in science, math, and the military.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn; his son, Sean McFee, daughter-in-law Celeste McFee and two granddaughters, Aria and Millie McFee, all of North Carolina. Surviving siblings include his sister Cynthia McFee of Denver, Colorado and brothers, John McFee of South Dakota, Ron McFee of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Mark McFee of Grand Junction, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his son, Scott McFee and his parents, John L. and Patricia McFee.
There will be a private ceremony for interment at Holy Cross Episcopal Church.
