Myrlene was born on December 27, 1929, in Lockhart, Alabama, but lived in Pensacola for most of her life. She retired from the Santa Rosa Island Authority after 20 years and then went on to work with her daughter, Nina, for 12 years at Blue Angel Learning Center, where she loved working with children.
Myrlene was a loving mother and grandmother who had many passions in life, to include sewing, dancing, singing, and gardening, but she loved spending time with her family more than anything else. She was a long-time member of Bellview Baptist Church where she also volunteered.
Myrlene is survived by her children: Marcia (Lewis) Freeman, Nina (Bruce) Wood and David (Sarah) Kersey. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Myrlene is preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, William “David” Kersey, her daughter Melissa “Lisa” Whitworth and her son Jackie Kersey.
A visitation for Myrlene will be held Monday, January 30, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, FL 32534, followed by a funeral service with committal prayer from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that a donation be made on behalf of Myrlene Kersey to the Bellview Baptist Church at 4750 Saufley Field Rd, Pensacola, FL 32526.
