She was born during the deep depression into a sharecropper’s family in Southeast Georgia. Life was hard in those days, especially when her father passed away leaving 12 children. Her stepfather basically saved all their lives. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior when she was a young wife and mother. Her life’s verse was 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithfully and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, William C. Smith and Abigail Tuten; husband, Robert M. Simpson; eleven siblings and her great grandson, Benjamin Thompson.
She is survived by her son, Jerry M. Simpson, Sr. (Ann); daughter, Joanne Hall (Larry); grandchildren, Charlotta Thompson (David), Jerry Simpson, Jr., Elizabeth Bates (Jared) and Rob Hall; great grandchildren, Becky Noa, Rachel Shingler, Paul, Sarah, Jonathan, Anne, Isaac, Bethany, Naomi and Abigail Thompson, Isaac, Jordan and Timothy Bates and Kaitlin Hall; five great grandchildren and family friend, Dennis Gorrebeeck.
