Ollie was born in Pollard, AL, on November 25, 1919. She retired from Monsanto in the 1980s and began working with flowers and plants at Eden Land Nursery, working well into her 80s. She took great pride and pleasure in gardening and loved adding to her flower beds. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cottage Hill and loved her church family, especially her Sunday School class. She was an amazing cook and delighted in having her family together at meal times. Another of her delights were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two of which are named after her.
Ollie was a kind-hearted and generous person. She had an incredibly giving spirit and was filled with Christian love. Her genuineness, sincerity and warmth endeared her to those who met her, and she was much beloved.
To Ollie’s special caregiver, Susan Waldrop, whose unwavering commitment, perseverance, and love allowed her to stay at home for her remaining years, we offer the utmost gratitude.
The family would also like to thank the caregivers at Gentiva Home Health for their compassionate and skilled attention to Ollie’s needs, and Officer Melissa Sterling with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department for her support during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a graveside service following at 3:00 p.m.
