Percy Charles Brown, Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the union of the late Percy Brown Sr. and LaNell Hookfin Brown. He was sixty-two years old at the time of his passing. Percy quietly stepped from this life into the next on November 19, 2020.
He grew up in Madisonville, Louisiana and graduated from Covington High School in 1976. In March 1976 during his senior year of high school, he enlisted in the U.S. NAVY as a SEABEE. In September 1976, he began basic training in San Diego, CA.
He served a grateful nation for twenty-six dedicated years in the United States NAVY. After retiring from the NAVY, he attended Pensacola Junior College and then the University of West Florida where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in 2006. After receiving his degree, he worked various construction positions. His final position was a Master Scheduler with the Public Works Dept. at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola.
He loved playing golf, cooking, and fishing. When he was a young boy, he loved hunting with his dad.
Percy was a member of the Corry Station Chapel, where he served in a number of positions. He was on the Advisory Board at the chapel. Percy enjoyed studying the Bible and embraced Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
Percy was preceded in death by his parents: Percy Brown, Sr. and LaNell Hookfin Brown.
Left to cherish Percy’s beautiful memories will be his beloved wife of thirty-six years: Sandra, one sister; Sandra A. Burnside and husband Windell, two brothers: Terrence A. Brown, Walter C. Brown, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, great nephews and friends. He also leaves behind his chapel family at Corry Chapel and friends and co-workers at the Public Works Dept.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 30, 2020, at Barrancas National Cemetery with Chaplain John Ismach-Eastman officiating. The funeral cortege will meet at Olive Baptist Church of Warrington, 103 W. Winthrop Ave. Warrington, FL 32507 at 9:00 A.M.
In honor of Percy Charles Brown, Jr., memorials may be made to a local food bank or make a donation of Personal Protective Equipment to a local hospital.
