Phil Solkey, age 59, passed peacefully on Friday evening. Born in Chicago, IL, he settled in Pensacola, FL, following his Army and Navy enlisted service tours. He was a combat-wounded veteran of the Vietnam War. He was retired from federal service (NADEP) as an Aircraft Electrician and resided in Lillian, AL, with his dear wife, Mary, of 23 years. In a recent document, when asked how long they were married, he wrote “not long enough.” He also wrote of his proudest family moments “my children, I love them so much.”
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Solkey. He is survived by his wife, Mary; mother, Lucille Laszlo; sisters Maxine Solkey and Barbara Atkinson; sons Christopher, Matthew and Joseph Solkey; daughter Elizabeth (Bryan) Godette; step-children Jimmy and Will Owens, Cindy Kabel and Teresa (Greg) Casey; grandsons, Jason, Jeremy and Joshua Owens, Greg and Chris Casey, and Owen Kabel; granddaughters Elizabeth (Bryan) Enfinger and Amiyah Godette; great-granddaughter, Shelby Enfinger; and his best buddy, Brownie.
A memorial service will be held at Crossroad Baptist Church on Mobile Hwy on Thursday, March 4th, at 11:00 a.m.—to be confirmed)
