Mrs. Mathes served 23 years in the United States Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer and served during WWII, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam conflict. He loved to go “Junking” or whatever other people call recycling.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Adams Mathes.
Survivors include two daughters, Becky Mathes (Ronnie) Katona and Debbie (Ron) Scott; his grandchildren, Katherine Mauldin, Ronald BrilI, Jamie Boggs, Allison Brill and Missy Updike; great grandchildren, Aubree Brill, Daisy Omara, Elijah Beasley, Sean Guntner, Jr and Tori Updike; and many other special nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday September 4, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Chapel of Easter Gate Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Stacey officiating. Interment will follow in Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the service hour.
