Robert D. Bentz

Bob was born August 15, 1936 in Hutchison, Kansas to Dallas and Tennie Bentz. Four years after his father’s death his mother married Lt. Commander (USN) John Sosh and Bob moved to Hawaii with them.

After coming to Pensacola, he graduated from Pensacola High School, then was in the last class of Alabama Polytech (renamed Auburn University), where he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity for four years.

Receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he was employed by American Cyanamid, Cytec and Sterling Fibers for a total of 40 years. After retirement, he and Marjorie chose to remain in Pensacola, a city they always loved.

Bob was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for fifty years, serving as treasurer several terms on the vestry and junior warden of the building committee.

He enjoyed watching the Blue Angels from his front yard, garden and his swimming pool.

Bob and Marjorie traveled the “48”, had three trips “across the pond” to Europe with other members of Auburn Alumni.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie.

Bob was preceded in death by his Father, Grandparents Rob and Flo Bentz, Step Father John Sosh, Mother Tennie, Parents-in-law Oney and Florine Merritt, who loved him as a son; and Brother and Sister-in-law James and Blanche Hawkins.

Funeral Services for Bob will be held January 2, 2018 at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 850 N. Blue Angel Parkway with Rev. Bob Graves officiating. Visitation and reception will be held at the church prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 am. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
