Robert D. James, born August 22, 1948 to Charles and Grace James in Alexandria, Virginia passed away August 19 in Pensacola, Florida. The first nine years of his life were spent with his parents and three brothers, and loving maternal grandparents in Alexandria. The family moved to Delaware afterwards. Bob enjoyed playing football, baseball, and wrestling at Seaford High School in Seaford, Delaware. He attended three years at the University of Delaware where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.
In 1969, Bob joined the U.S. Army. This turned out to be a perfect fit for his personality and skills, so he stayed 24 years. He served in various personnel positions. There were two tours in Germany, with his family, who learned to love Germany and its people. The majority of his service was as a Guidance Counselor/Security Interviewer with new recruits for Army Security Agency positions. For his initiative, knowledge, managerial skills and professionalism, he received five Meritorious Service Medals. After retiring from service, Bob worked 19 years as a Special Agent with the Federal Investigative Services (FIS). Again, the position fit him well. He was a "people person" who enjoyed interacting with those he interviewed as well as his co-workers. He made many good friends at FIS.
Bob married Barbara in 1974 and they welcomed their son, Patrick, in 1977. From kindergarten through high school Bob supported Patrick's participation in soccer, as well as skiing in which he excelled.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Grace. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, son Patrick; brothers: Charles (Diana); Donald (Dorie); and Michael, granddaughters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
