

Ruth attended and graduated from Pasco High School before pursuing a nursing degree and training at Sacred Heart in Spokane, Washington. It was during then that she met her future husband, Richard, on a blind date and very quickly realized that he was the love of her life. Together, they started a family and embarked on numerous travels due to Richard's military career, living in places from Colorado Springs to San Vito, Italy, before settling in San Antonio, Texas. Education was important to Ruth, and she completed her Master's degree at SW Texas State during her career. Ruth was a talented nurse, taking positions in retirement homes and as an operating and surgical nurse as her family traveled. Before retirement, she excelled as Director of Donor Services for the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center. Regardless of where she ended up, Ruth cherished her time with family and acquired numerous friends everywhere she went. In 2022, Ruth moved to Pensacola, Florida, where she remained until her passing.
In her personal life, Ruth loved gambling and visiting casinos during her retirement. She traveled extensively, both before and after retirement, exploring the world with a sense of adventure. One of her favorite destinations was Machu Picchu, admired for its beautiful architecture. She enjoyed cruising and was a talented domino player, gaining notoriety at The Blake for her love of the game and her skills. Ruth also loved television, particularly game shows and soap operas, with a special fondness for "The Young and The Restless". She adored cats and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs fan, holding season tickets for roughly 30 years. Ruth was known for always speaking her mind.
Ruth is survived by her son Kirt (Linda) Maxey; her grandsons, Shawn (Natalie Brou) Maxey and Ryan (Dawn) Maxey; and her great-grandchildren, Kayden and Avery Maxey. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Patrick Maxey; her parents, Lawrence Harold and Ida Mildred McCurley and her sister, Johnnie R. McCurley.
A visitation will be held at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, located at 3351 Scenic Highway 90e, Pensacola, FL, on January 6, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. A committal service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Rd, Pensacola, FL 32508, at 11:30 am.
Ruth Ann Maxey's legacy is one of strength, adventure, and an unwavering dedication to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
