To the family of Samuel Mayfield, Jr.,  I came to know Sam many years ago.  He was a big guy with a huge heart and a long pony tail . He shared many stories about his kids and spoke fondly of his love for his wife and kids.  We have worked together for many years and he will be missed.  I recall many days when he was off workhowever he would be in the office in uniform talking about a customer or something happening on the plant.  When you here people speak of a company man, that's Sam.  Sam will be gone from our presence however he will forever live in our memories.  Sam has parked his van, took off his tool belt and is resting.

About 30 years ago, I met my first “man crush.”  He was about 6 foot 3 with a heart about the same size.  He loved my aunt Phoebe to distraction.  He also had the coolest dog named Sunshine.  But don’t let the name fool you.... she would eat your face off lol!  I visited them quite often.   And even though I probably got on his last nerve, he always made me feel welcome.  He was a faboulous stay-home father who could name every member of the Teletubies.  He also taught Sammie to name every player of the Cubs by jersey number when he was about 2 years old.   I have many wonderful memories of Sam.  But mostly I think of him of a wonderful husband and father who loved his family with all his heart.   Sam, you will be greatly missed!  Rest In Peace, big man!

Many years ago, Phoebe was pregnant with one of those beautiful children. Sam was a very proud stay at home dad at the time.  He was always listening to the radio, trying to win concert tickets.  He called me, all excited,  and said he had won Aerosmith tickets, but with the impending birth, Phoebe could not attend.  Did I  want to go with him to Biloxi?  My hubby, knowing Sam, said sure.  I offered to drive, and when I picked him up, he told me he had also won the Meet and Greet backstage.  I was over the moon!!   We had a blast, even though he only got three of four autographs on his favorite album..Toys in the Attic. ( I got ALL four).  After our house burned and we lost everything,  we were talking about music, and favorite albums.  Mine was the "flames" cover of Lynrnrd Skynrd.  One day Sam showed up at my door, album in hand, claiming he had two copies of said album and he wanted me to have his extra.  I still suspect he gave me his only copy, but I treasure it still today.
Phoebe and family,  my thoughts,  love and prayers go out to you.

About 30 years ago, I met a man changed my life and I his. He said this is my song to you. Clmax blues band...I love you.  I can't express what the journey has been like, but I could not have asked for anything more.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Sam came into my office one day not long ago, set down (after I insisted, )looked at me and said " Peggy, I made it right with God! It's going to be ok! I smiled through my tears and gave him a hug. I couldn't say a word.  With those words being said to me I knew Sam was going to be alright. This void that is left will soon be filled with all of the fond memories and I will simile and know he is alright. Until we meet again my friend.. 

Oh Sam-I-Am...you will be truly missed my friend.  Working with you was such a blessing for all of us.  You were so good at putting a smile on everyone’s face.  RIP and we’ll see you on the other side!

I had the pleasure of working along side Sam for about 3 years at Mediacom, and he was the funniest kindest soul. We talked a lot about music because he loved it as much as I,  and he used to tease me about being a karaokeholic. I said one day I would run it and he said go for it now 7 years later I am. Thank you Sam for the laughs love support and just being an all around amazing man!!❤️

Sam always had a story to share that would put a smile on your face, treated everyone he met like family, and made everyone around him shine. When he arrived at the Com 10 years ago, I had no idea what to expect from the tall, long haired, music loving man that we all came to know, and love. I called him so many times - ‘Samantha Jean, I know your not on call but I have this customer. Give me the job. You don’t have to go. Why did you call? I knew you would.’ Got in trouble when he was caught not wearing that ugly orange safety vest, wore it all the time after that, and I mean all the time. My heart is breaking but memories still bring a smile to my face. Samantha Jean, you will always be my hero! You were, and continue to be a blessing to all that were lucky enough to have known you. Phoebe, and family, we all are praying for you guys, and know that we are here if you need anything.

10 YEARS AGO A VERY TALL SLIM LONG HAIRED MAN CAME WALKING INTO MEDIACOM WITH A CABLE BOX IN HIS HAND.  HE BEGAN TO TELL ME ALL ABOUT WHAT HAPPEN, HOW TO CONNECT IT, ALL ABOUT  THE SIGNALS, CO-AX. AND SO ON ABOUT THE CABLE WORLD.   I LOOKED AT HIM AND SAID "" WELL THEN, YOU DONT NEED ME TO HELP YOU WITH THIS, MEDIACOM NEEDS YOU TO COME TO WORK...  "" HE TURNED AND SAID," I SHALL DO THAT"  HERE IS MY NAME AND NUMBER, HAVE SOMEONE TO CALL ME...AS HE LAUGHED AND SAID "" LONG HAIRED HIPPY BOY NEED NOT APPLY""  I SAID THAT'S NOT THE CORRECT WORDS TO THAT SONG! AND WE LAUGHED.   THE NEXT THING I KNEW HE WAS WALKING THROUGH THE DOOR,  BUT THIS TIME COMING TO WORK!  HE ALWAYS SMILED, NO MATTER WHAT HAPPEN THROUGHOUT THE DAY, HE WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP WITH WHATEVER HE COULD. HE WOULD ALWAYS TRY TO OUT SING ME WITH THE 70'S SONGS. AND EACH MORNING AS I WOULD WALK TO THE BREAK ROOM, I  ALWAYS LOOKED IN THE TECH ROOM WINDOW TO SEE ALL THE TECHS, AND HE WAS ALWAYS AT HIS SPOT.....while there's nothing I can do to change what happened, I can continue to offer you my love and support. Extending my most heartfelt condolences to this beautiful family...  LOVE YOU....
