Sarah Anne Johnson Freeman, a resident of Pensacola for 50 years, passed away at home on February 07, 2016. Memorial services will be held at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel on Scenic Highway at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 19, 2016.
Anne was born on March 29, 1945 in Cullman, Alabama. Her parents were John Leslie and Sarah Wilkes Johnson of Brewton, Alabama. Anne graduated from T. R. Miller (Brewton High School) in 1963 and from Auburn University in 1967. She then earned her Master’s Degree from Florida State University in 1976.
During Anne’s 18 year career she taught Family and Consumer Sciences at Warrington Middle School, Woodham High School, Pensacola Junior College and Ernest Ward. For six years, she and her partner owned and operated a clothing store for children (The Merry-Go-Round). For her last 12 working years, she was an Applied Technology Specialist for Family and Consumer Sciences for the School District of Escambia County. During most of those years, she coordinated the program within and for the county.
Anne was a loving mother, wife and friend. She loved children (enjoyed teaching them), loved to cook (has several recipes in the Some Like It South cookbook), loved to travel and loved to have fun! For years, she was an active member of the Junior League and in the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John Henry Freeman, Jr.; daughter, Johanna Ashley; brother, John L. Johnson, Jr.; niece, Leslie; and several cousins.
Suggestions for memorial contributions include organizations that research Alzheimer’s disease for a cure, The First United Methodist Church of Pensacola or a church of your choice.
