It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Ellen Gehrt Cooey announces her passing on January 20, 2026, at the age of 93. Mrs. Cooey was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bobby W. Cooey; her daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and John Avery; and brothers, Cliff and Ray Gehrt.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Driver (Mitchell); sons, Dale Cooey (Karen) and Ray Cooey (Allison); seven grandchildren, David Driver, Bobby Brooks, Justin Cooey (Lindsay), Mathew Cooey (Tiffany), Mandy Vaughn (Dustin), Ryan Cooey, Tara Imm (Shane) and eleven great grandchildren and several nieces.
Shirley was born in Normal, Illinois, January 15, 1933, to Frank and Wanda Gehrt and lived in Pensacola for the past 70 years. Shirley will be remembered for her love of family and her great sense of humor.
There will be a private family service held at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
