On December 15, 2015, Stuart George Watt , fondly known by his friends , peers and community as " Stu Watt " passed on in his sleep to be in the care of our heavenly Father ,joining his beloved wife Dorothy and his parents George James Watt ( Motherwell , Scotland ) and Elizabeth Fern Fullington ( Warsaw , New York ) ." Stu “was born in Warsaw, New York on April 26, 1934. His Father, “Scotty “, immigrated from Scotland at the age of 21 settling in Rochester , New York where he married Stu's Mother " Fern " . His parents, who were of modest means, sold antiques in the summers and managed restaurants in Daytona during the winters,. Stu split his High School studies between upstate New York and Daytona Beach, graduating from Warsaw High School in 1956. Stu went on to graduate with honors from his beloved alma mater, Penn State University, with a Master's Degree in Mineral Engineering.
During a summer internship for International Mineral and Chemicals Corp (IMC) in Lakeland, Florida he met his lifelong wife to be, Dorothy McLeod (“ Dottie " ) , while renting a room from her Grandmother. Dottie was his biggest supporter throughout her life; she predeceased Stu in 2003 at the young age of 66 due to ovarian cancer.
Stu Watt was gifted with extremely high intelligence, strong character and sharp wit. He had a natural gift of being at ease whether serving on several Board Of Directors seats , discussing fishing techniques at the local bait store or giving advice to a community member or relative in need . He never forgot his small town roots and his best childhood friends remained lifelong friends. He stayed grounded through his love of family , grandchildren ,Sunday comic strips , pranks on neighbors , hunting , fishing , poker , antiques , genealogy and his pet Blue Heron " Dummy " .
Stu was blessed to always thoroughly love his work. After graduating from Penn State, he started his career doing research for Luken's Steel in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. From there he spent several years with International Minerals and Chemicals corporation ( IMC ) serving as a Senior Research Engineer in Lakeland , Florida 1959-61 , Engineering Manager at their Chicago , Illinois headquarters 1961-63 and Production Manager of Potash operations in Carlsbad , New Mexico 1963-66 . Next he accepted a position with Wellman-Lord Engineering in Lakeland, Florida where he served as Process Engineering Manager 1966-70 and Vice President of Sales 1970-72. He made several lifelong friends during the Wellman-Lord years and a small vacation home in nearby Madeira Beach, FL at John's Pass was his slice of heaven. After Davy International ( London , England ) purchased Wellman-Lord , he served as Executive Vice President Business Development , U.S. Operations 1972-74 , then transferred to Houston , Texas serving as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Davy International , USA Engineering Operations 1974 - 1978 . Davy International USA subsequently acquired Arthur McKee Engineering (Cleveland, Ohio) and Stu moved to Aurora, Ohio to serve as a Board Member and Executive Vice President of the newly formed Davy McKee Corporation in 1979. Stu's years with Wellman-Lord / Davy - McKee involved extensive international travel to Western Europe , the Middle East , Egypt , Mexico and Canada with responsibility for negotiations , operations formation , joint ventures , Washington DC activities and international project finance .Stu subsequently left Davy McKee to form Stuart G Watt & Company , specializing in mergers , acquisitions and engineering management consulting . He developed strong list of major corporations as clients including Norsk Hydro ( Norway ) , Stat Oil ( Norway ) , Koppers Corporation ( Pittsburgh ) , Norconsult ( Norway ) , Sterling Group ( Houston ) and Aker USA ( Houston ) . Those years involved many trips to Norway with his wife Dottie assisting. Several Norwegian associates became some of their closest friends and have continued to visit over the years. A few months before a disabling fall at his home in 2008, Stu negotiated the sale of Pan West, a partner with the government of Trinidad and Conoco in Trinidad's PPGPL, one of the largest gas processing facilities in the Americas to GE Capital. This was to be his last work project.
“Stu and Dottie " moved to Perdido Key , Florida ( Pensacola ) in 1988 after visiting friends there and falling in love with its white sands and slower pace which reminded them of the way central Florida's gulf coast was in the old days . After Dottie passed on to heaven in 2003, he focused on his two Sons and their Grandchildren. During that time, and throughout his life, he always switched off work to make quality time for family. No family was ever prouder of their Father and Grandfather, he is deeply missed. Stu was an active member of Perdido Key United Methodist Church and, through the “Stuart and Dottie Watt Foundation” formed in 2007, continues to provide assistance to families in need. His family will always be grateful to the special team of nurse assistants who came to his home around the clock for over 7 years. Angela, Emma, Jana, Kenya, Lee, Luna, Nancy, Ronica and Sally are all angels in God's eyes and ours. We are thankful “Stu and Dottie “are together again in the Lord's care.
To carry on the lessons taught , he leaves his two sons , Eric Watt ( Amesbury , Mass ) and Stuart Watt ll ( Pensacola , FL ) along with four grandchildren , Michelle Watt ( Amesbury , Mass ) , Linda Espino Watt ( Amesbury , Mass ) , Caitlin Watt ( Atlanta , Ga ) and Stuart Watt III ( Atlanta , Ga ) .
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, just give a little more than normal to another family with needs this Christmas season.
Visitation to be held Sunday December 20, 2015 12:00-2:30 pm with Funeral Service at 2:30 pm at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Burial to follow. www.bayviewfisher-pouchapel.com
