
Sylvia Marie Flowers, age 86, went to be with Our Lord on May 23, 2013 with her family at her bedside. She was born on May 4, 1927 in Holmes County, FL to John William and Susie Churchwell. She was one of 8 children. Sylvia was loved and cherished by her family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed working in her yard and took great pride in growing her beautiful flowers. Sylvia was young at heart and loved people. She never met a stranger and loved to talk, especially about her family. She was a proud mother of three daughters and bragged about them to anyone who would listen how she loved them. She and her best friend, Shirley Granholm Fisher, of almost 60 years loved to shop and lunch every Saturday. Many folks knew her when she worked as a waitress for Carver's Restaurant in Warrington, The Family Restaurant on Pace Blvd, and then the S&S Cafe downtown where she shared ownership with her best friend Shirley. She and her husband of 49 years, Fred, were members of the Shriners and enjoyed years of many activities. She loved to dress up and dance! In the past few years, she was involved with volunteering at Zelica Grotto that she truly enjoyed. She was a member of Warrington Baptist Church since April 5, 1959 and a member of the Joy Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred M. Flowers, parents John William and Susie Churchwell, sister Sara Fussell Helms, brothers Jack and James Churchwell.
Survivors include her daughters, Ginger(Larry) Owens of Macon,GA, Kay(Dale) Futral of Cantonment,Fl, and Pam(Scott) Gulsby of Pace,FL; grandchildren, Scott(Christi) Owens of Atlanta,GA, Heather(Chris)Woodgeard of Macon,GA, Megan Jones Sinyard(Brad McCurdy)of Pensacola, Ryan(Chrissie)Jones of Pensacola, Clint Gulsby of Pace,Fl, Brad Futral and Chris Futral of Pensacola, Fl; great grandchildren, Anna and Olivia Woodgeard, Evee Owens, McKenna and Parkyr Jones, Cheyenne and Mason Futral. Sylvia is also survived by her sisters whom she adored and loved spending time with laughing and telling stories, Pearl White of Ocoee,FL, Helen(Wayne)Thomas of Dawsonville, GA, Alma Rita Owens of PanamaCity, FL and Jo Ellen (Gerald)Bowie of Westpoint, GA; sisters in law, Nita Flowers and Betty Flowers both of Pensacola, Fl, brothers in law, Eugene Flowers of Marianna,Fl, Ed Pendo of Pensacola and Johnny Roselle of Pensacola; beloved numerous nieces and nephews. Her best friend Shirley Granholm Fisher and lastly, her faithful constant companion, Precious.
Pallbearers will be her sons in laws, Larry Owens, Dale Futral, Scott Gulsby and Grandsons, Scott Owens, Ryan Jones, and Clint Gulsby.
A special thank you to her beloved classmates of Joy Sunday School Class for all their love and support, Pastor Larry White for always being there for Mom and Dad, Dr. James Brown for his great care through the years, Melissa Gibbs and her family for all the love and friendship,special friends at Heaven Sent Salon for the fellowship through the years, Covenant Hospice staff of Joyce Goldenberg Residence for their loving care to our Mother and family during her final hours.
The Family will recieve friends on Sunday, May 26, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home.
Services will begin Sunday, May 26, 2013, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Larry White officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens Cemetery at the Three Crosses.
