I was shocked to read in the most recent edition of  southwestern News that Tommy had gone to be with The Lord. I went to seminary with Tommy in the 80's and we landscaped together in those years for a local company. For two years we shared conversation 5 days a week. You  children  may not recall this but I would walk to the house you lived in there behind the seminary and your dad and I  would load up in that little yellow Toyota truck and head off to work. I was single at the time so your dad gave me lots of counsel about relationships and ministry and life. We became good friends and he really was like an older brother to me. Tommy was hard- working, honest, gentle yet tough. We spoke of the Marines some and we both looked forward to being done school and in ministry. He sure loved you kids! You were his pride and joy. Then a few years later Tommy invited me to come to preach in your church in Sneads Ferry, NC at a revival. We shared shrimp and Scripture. You girls may faintly remember that from your childhood. Anyway this has been such a shock. I lost touch with Tommy and ironically pastor in Central Florida now. Your dad had a profound influence upon my life and I trust you will give thanks to The Lord for his life of Christian influence even amidst the acute loss you now feel.

I wrote this for my brother when he passed away. I shared it with one of Coach Long's sisters an told her I would post it on here. I'm sorry it took so long. My prayers are with you all.

Tommy, thank you for helping me become the person i am today. Love you and miss you.

I went to high school with Janet and Tommy.  I am truly saddened by Tommy's death.  He was an amazing person and was always so kind and considerate to me.  My sincere thoughts and prayers are with Janet, Karen, Joyce, Mr. Long and the entire family.

I was so saddened to hear about Tommy's passing.  He and I were in French class together, and he and Steve teased me.  He was a great kid who grew up to be a great man.  He had such a positive, encouraging attitude.  He was the first person I knew that ever talked about a personal relationship with Christ, and had never heard of that before.  Gratefully, I've heard of it now, and I will see Tommy again in heaven.  Prayers for Janet and the Long Family.

So sorry to hear of Tommy's passing. He was our pastor in Isney, AL in the early '80s. Prayers are with the family.

I worked for Tommy at the Recreation Center in Gulf Breeze, FL.  He was a fantastic boss, coach, and leader.  I'm very thankful to have known him, as I know many others are.

I was a teenager at Isney Baptist Church when Bro. Tommy was a young pastor.  I remember the guidance and leadership he provided for me.  I am sorry to hear of his passing.  My prayers are with the family at this time.

Tommy was great person. I only knew him but a short time when he was the pastor of Isney Baptist Church in Isney, Al. He certainly enjoyed the ball court to the fullest. He'll always have a place in my heart with that big smile he always gave so freely. Rest In Peace My Friend.

We had the pleasure of meeting Tommy at a family gathering at my daughter and son-in-law's home in Mobile.  (My daughter Heather and Julie work together.) We all were so sorry to hear of Tommy's passing.  Our sincere condolences to Tommy's family and to our friends Julie, Courtney, and Gracie.  May he rest in eternal peace.

Tommy was our pastor at Isney Baptist and I was very impressed with his knowledge and love of the Bible.  We lost touch when he left Isney, but my thoughts are with the family now.

There are no words... We were blessed to have been "adopted" into the Long family in 1965, and to have closely shared in their family values during our most formative years.  While time and distance may have sent us all in our own directions, there is not a week that goes by that we don't mention one of the Long;s in conversation, remembering how fortunate we were to grow up in Bayou Grove, across the street from them.
We're both still in shock over this untimely passing, and wish we could be there to give Karen, Janet, Joyce, and especially Mr. Long, a huge tight hug, like the ones we received so often growing up/  Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.  We love you all very much... P-nuts and James
