

Tommy graduated from Pensacola High School and received a basketball scholarship to Gadsden State Jr. College and University of West Florida. He received a Masters degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1974-1983. Tommy went to the National Basketball Championship For NAIA, was elected to the Who's Who's in America Colleges Athletes in 1974 and was also elected to the University of West Florida Hall of Fame. In 2008 he was awarded Mobile County Coach of The Year.
Tommy was a High School Mens Basketball Coach in the Panama City, FL area and most recently at Citronelle High School. He was also the Pastor of Smithtown Baptist Church. He is survived by his significant other, Julie Williams, his children; Jessica Long, Jenny Long, and Joshua (Amber) Long, his father; Thomas B. Long Sr and step mother Sammye Long and his sisters; Janet York, Karen Ciampini, and Joyce Edwards, along with 7 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Pensacola. Visitation will be at 11:30am with service at 12:30pm, followed by burial at Barrancas National Cemetery at 2pm. In lieu of sending flowers, family asks that you donate towards to Tommy Long Jr. Memorial Fund at Navy Federal Credit Union, account #3036364945. Funds will be used to help send someone in need to the Billy Donovan Basketball Camp. Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
