Bill was born just outside of Swainsboro, GA on July 18, 1926. He was the oldest of four children, and the only son of William and Inez (Wheeler) Waller. He moved with his family to Douglas, GA, Statesboro, GA and then to Port Saint Joe, FL where he graduated from high school at the age of 16. He began college at the University of Florida when he was 17 years old. After his freshman year, Bill joined the Army’s 11th Airbourne division as a paratrooper during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines, and was with the first regiment to arrive in Japan after the Japanese surrendered. When Bill returned to the states, he attended the University of Alabama and received his B.S. in Chemistry in 1949. After college, Bill moved to Brewton, AL where he met and married his loving wife Virginia Maurine Bracken in 1954. He worked as a Chemist in various industries in Brewton, AL and Augusta, GA before moving to Pensacola in 1963. He worked at St. Regis Paper Company for several years before taking a job with the Civil Service as a chemist at Pensacola Naval Air Station. He retired in 1993, and spent his time with his family, traveling, reading, playing golf, and watching his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide win many football championships. Bill had a strong religious faith, and served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and member of the vestry at Scenic Heights Baptist Church for many years.
His wife of over 50 years, Virginia Maurine Bracken Waller, preceded him in death in 2007. Surviving to cherish his memory are his three children, Pamela Waller Venus (Henry), William Calvin Waller, Jr., and Donna Waller Hipp; two grandchildren, Natalie Venus Biglane (Don) and William Michael Venus; and one great-granddaughter, Adriana Carmen Venus. He is also survived by his loving sisters Grace Waller Stewart and Joyce Waller Hicks, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bill was very family oriented and was a great teacher and role model for his children and grandchildren. His strong Christian faith carried him through many rough times over the years, and he always had a happy, positive attitude even during the worst of times. We will miss his always present love and support, his loving guidance, and his bright smile more than words can express.
