Brad attended Merle Sidener School #59 and was a 1967 graduate of Broad Ripple High School both in Indianapolis, IN. While in high school Brad participated in football and track, was involved in the arts program, and was active in the Boy Scouts of America, achieving Eagle Scout. After graduation he moved to Peoria and attended Bradley University where he met his wife Diane. Brad was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts.
While attending Bradley University he worked for Continental Can Co. in Peoria Heights. Then he followed in his fathers footsteps and worked for Trader's Reality. Brad started his own business in 1993, Pettet Jewelry Designs Ltd, where he designed and created unique and elegant jewelry pieces. Brad was very proud of his signature piece, L'eau Courbe'E which he created with mother of pearl that he collected from local shells that he gathered along the Illinois River.
It took two ministers to do the honors for newly-weds Mr and Mrs Albert Bradshaw Pettet II.
Brad and a friend had staged a double birthday surprise party for Diane and a sorority sister on March 10, 1973 and asked all guests to bring "Funny" gifts. The last present to be opened by the bride-to-be was a large McDonald's 1/4 pound hamburger box. Diane was stunned to find a small green box buried in the traditional tissue. A surprise to top all surprises---a diamond!
Brad's love of the river extended beyond gathering shells. He also loved boating, jet skiing, cookouts and celebrations on the barge with his wife and the many friends they made in college and the Ivy Club. Another of Brad's passions was snow skiing and he could be found enjoying the slopes of Colorado in February. He competed in trials motorcycle competitions in Central Illinois. Brad was a member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, IN and a longtime member of the Illinois Valley Yacht and Canoe Club in Peoria Heights.
