He served honorably as a Paratrooper in the 1st Calvary Division of the Fifth US Army in Vietnam earning the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Parachutist Badge and held Sharpshooter qualification.
Surviving are his daughter, Jennifer Sweeper of Allen, Texas; his two grandsons, Michael and Kyle Sweeper; and his sister, Sandra Mosley-Gordon of Peoria.
Lonnie enjoyed a long career with the US Postal Service in Peoria, retiring in January of 2014 as a supervisor after 37 years. He will be remembered as one of the biggest Cubs fans to ever live. It is good that he was able to enjoy watching his beloved Cubs in post-season play to cap off a great year for the team.
At 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 12th his life will be celebrated with a memorial service at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Pastor Daniel Moore will officiate. Cremation has been accorded. Memorials are suggested to the COPD Foundation
