

He was born February 25, 1958 in Peoria to George and Matilda (Kerbage) Couri. He married Agnes “Aggie” Tony, Nov. 28, 1998 in Peoria.
She survives along with Jamil’s mother, Matilda Couri of East Peoria; four brothers and two sisters, George (Carole) Couri of Peoria, Janie (George) Hides of Chicago, Denise (Walter) Wiebe of Elmwood Park, IL, Johnny (Kim) Couri of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Denny (Shelley) Couri of Peoria, and Pete (Becky) Couri of Plainfield, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved, Michelle, George, Madeline, Leo, Nick, Mia, Gabby, Sammy, Jessica (David), Jeremy, Grace, Chad, Stephen, Kelly, and Addison.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1991, and one brother-in-law, Steve in 2005.
Jamil along with his brother George, owned and operated The Cruise Company in Peoria since 1990. In 2010 they took over Couri’s License Service from their uncles and ran both businesses from the current East Peoria location. Jamil and his family had a presence in East Peoria for many years with Couri’s Food Town, which was the start of his business career. Jamil was also employed at the North Point Kroger.
Jamil was a graduate of Bradley University, a member of St Sharbel Church and its Men’s Club, the Itoo Society Men’s Club and a past youth leader for the St. Sharbel Youth Group. Jamil called bingo at his church and his club and also played Santa for many years. Jamil was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Spalding Council and each year he provided support for the Tri-County St. Jude run.
Jamil was loved by all, and was a kind and gentle soul who always had a smile. Jamil always took time to talk with whomever he came in contact. He liked to laugh and joke, especially with his nieces and nephews. They looked forward to the annual slumber party each summer. Jamil was a wonderful husband, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend and a devoted son to his mother Matilda.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday, November 16th at St Sharbel Maronite Church in Peoria with ChorBishop Faouzi Elia, Father Bechara Awada and his uncle, Father Paul Kerbage officiating. Burial will follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria. Mercy Meal following at the Lariat Club.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 15th from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the St. Sharbel Parish Hall in Peoria with recitation of the Rosary at 2:30 and additional visitation one hour prior to the service at church.
Memorials may be made to the Itoo Society Memorial Fund, St. Sharbel Maronite Church, or to the charity of your choice.
