

She was born on November 11, 1929 in Peoria the daughter of Ariadne and Michael Dikos. She married Gus C. Mustakas on June 29, 1952 in Peoria. He died on February 13, 2007.
Calliope was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Michael Mustakas and one sister, Nikki Hepner.
Calliope is survived by one daughter Stephanie (Greg) Kareotes of Pelham, Alabama. She is also survived by three step-granddaughters and three step-great grandchildren.
Calliope attended Manual High School and graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 1951. She taught vocal music Kindergarten through High School at Milford, Illinois and Tremont, Illinois. She returned to Bradley University earning additional hours toward a Primary Grade Teaching Certificate. She taught Primary Grades at Thomas Jefferson and Tyng Grade schools of Peoria School District 150, retiring in June 1988.
She enjoyed raising Michael and Stephanie. Calliope enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States, Central and South America, and Europe. They enjoyed listening to music, Classical and Popular, and attended many Peoria Symphony Orchestra concerts. Calliope also enjoyed playing golf and was a member of several Peoria Ladies Golf Leagues.
She was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. She sang in the choir and served as a choir director for a number of years.
Calliope lived the last 3 1/2 years of her life at Proctor Place. She loved the staff and everyone there. The family is very grateful to all the staff that cared for her.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 11 a.m. with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Peoria. Father Theofanis Rauch will officiate. Burial will conclude at Parkview Cemetery, Peoria.
