She was born Dec. 1, 1927 in Terry, Miss. to Leon and Iona Flowers Adams.
She last worked at Caterpillar Inc., where she retired in the 1980s after many years.
Everyone who knew her knew exactly how she was because she told them and showed them. She showed her love of fashion by wearing the most stylish clothes, color-coordinated from her hat to her heels. Her love of good food showed in her cooking, food she was always ready to give to friends and family (as long as they brought their own Tupperware). Her cakes could be as extravagant as her clothes, both of which she made from scratch.
Though she worked hard, she was always willing to share her time and talent with others, from cooking and sewing to babysitting and caring for foster children. She was a former member of several gospel groups, including the Willing Four and the Queens of Harmony. She was also an avid gardener. To relax, she enjoyed working complicated jigsaw puzzles.
Through it all, she rarely minced words about what she loved and what she didn’t. But most of all, she loved the Lord. She was a former member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Adams, one son, Wayne Gleason II, three grandchildren, Jadrien Adams, Jarvia Adams and Xavier Hardin; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
