He was born May 24, 1933 in Peoria to Albert and Elsie (Kretzer) Hauptly. He married Janis Rae Blackburn on August 30, 1953 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Mark Douglas Hauptly of Peoria, Sharon Rae (Joel) Fugman also of Peoria, and David Edward (Debra) Hauptly of Washington; daughter-in-law, Mary Hauptly of Orlando, FL; sister, Shirley (Lyn) Ragains of Springfield; three granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn (Tallyn) Turnbow of Normal, Tiffany Nicole Hauptly (James Salzman) of Normal and Michelle Marie (Joe) Ferguson of East Peoria; four great-grandchildren, Willow Mae Salzman, Elias Matthew Ferguson, Zoe Madeline Turnbow and Kali Veronica Turnbow, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
Chuck served in the U.S. Army and worked at Caterpillar Inc for over 39 years retiring in 1990 as a supervisor. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and past member of U.A.W. Local 974. Chuck loved the outdoors, working on projects around the home, and yard work. He enjoyed playing sports in his youth, he belong to the church softball league for many years and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan.
A funeral service will be on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Pastor Gary Hutton will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
