Donald was born in Princeton, Illinois, on June 15, 1946, to Raymond E and Laura E (Zimmerman) McCall.
He graduated from Illinois State University with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in mathematics. He served in Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division of the United States Army from 1969-1970, receiving two bronze stars, and returned to teach mathematics at Pekin High School for seven years. He later worked at several local banks, retiring from South Side Bank in 2007. He was a member of VFW Post 814 and American Legion Post 1, serving with their honor guard. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Church in Morton for many years and recently a member of Grace Presbyterian Church of Peoria.
A devoted family man who lived out his faith, Don is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lea; daughters Jennifer (Scott) Reel of Peoria and Dana (Eric) Button of St. Charles, MO; his mother, Laura McCall, of Princeton; one brother, Steven (Judy) McCall of Princeton; and one sister, Lynn Hoffmann of Princeton. He was the proud and beloved grandfather to Jaelen Russell, and Kyle, Hannah, Kelsey, and Noah Button.
Don was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 5th, from 4-7 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Funeral Chapel (2021 N. University St., Peoria, IL 61604) and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 6th at Grace Presbyterian Church (8607 IL-91, Peoria, IL 61615). A funeral service will follow with Pastor John Hopwood officiating. Military honors will be presented at a graveside burial ceremony directly following the funeral service at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
