Born September 23, 1931 in Peoria to Henry and Stella (Moushon) Stegmaier, he married Dawn JoAnn Pinkney in 1952. She preceded him in death on January 24, 2002.
Donald was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Alice Arons and Doris DeWitt, and one brother Jackie Stegmaier.
He is survived by his three sons, Michael Stegmaier, Mark (Gloria), Stegmaier, and Jonathan (Lisa) Stegmaier, all of Brimfield, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Paul, (Krystal), Stegmaier of Marquette Heights, IL, Angela, (Andrew) Brown of Houston, TX, Shalan Stegmaier of Peoria, IL, Trace (Christina) Stegmaier of East Peoria, IL, Diane (Jonathan) Anderton of Peoria, IL, Tyler (Amanda) Stegmaier of Sioux Falls, SD Wesley (Megan) Stegmaier of Anchorage, AK; ten great grandchildren, Landon Stegmaier, Hallie, Colton, Jacob, Charles, Weston, Josiah, Henry, Anderton, Asher, River Stegmaier.
Donald served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War, was a 67 year member of Carpenters Local 237 and owned Stegmaier Builders from 1972 until his retirement in 1994. Don was a faithful attender of Northwoods Community Church, and used his God-given carpenter skills that leaves a legacy of custom built homes, room additions, and remodels throughout Central Illinois. He never said no to serving, using his talents to help friends and family. His unselfish willingness to help others extended far and wide to “Kids World” programs in Florida to mission projects building churches, schools, and housing in Haiti, and throughout Brazil. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, scrapping, and recycling junk.
A visitation for Donald will occur Monday, March 27, 2023 from 4 to 7 PM at Davison Fulton Woodland Chapel 2021 North University St. in Peoria. A graveside service conducted by Reverend Calvin Rychener will be at 10 AM Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
