

Ed was born in Blandinsville, IL on September 5, 1926. He graduated from Woodruff High School in 1944 and then enlisted and served in the Navy for 2 years during WWII. Upon discharge he then continued on to receive a Bachelor’s degree from Bradley University and a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois.
Ed was married to Una Mae Herzog (Booth) on March 12, 1949; they were married for 63 years.
Ed worked as a teacher and basketball coach in the Peoria area for 15 years prior to moving to the Chicago area where he worked as a school administrator in the Hinsdale high school district for the next 20 years. He then retired in 1986 to a lake home in Oak Run near Galesburg, IL where he and his family enjoyed many 4th of July celebrations throughout the years.
He enjoyed all sports, especially basketball, and loved to play golf with his good friends. He had a passion for music, singing, playing the guitar and the harmonica. He loved to entertain family and friends with his favorite songs. Some of his happiest moments were when he was spending time with family and friends.
Ed is survived by his wife, Una Mae; three children, Mark (Kim), Susan (Mike) and Lori (Jim); brother, Bill (Sandy) Herzog of Chapel Hill, NC; great Aunt Ruth of Macomb, IL; nine grandchildren, Greg, Adam, Lindsey, Christopher, Sydney, Gabrielle, Gillian, Isabelle and Dylan and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel located at 2021 N. University St., Peoria, IL. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
