He is also survived by his daughter, Pamela (Eldon) Schlupp of Eureka; three grandchildren, Aaron (Jessica) Schlupp of Deer Creek, Andrea and Alana Schlupp of Eureka; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph (Janet) Turner of Summersville, MO; one step-daughter, Crystal (Tony) Azbill of Peoria; four step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ted was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, one half- brother, and one half-sister, and one infant son.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church. He attended Eureka Bible Church in Illinois & Praise Assembly Church, in Summersville, MO.
Ted worked at Rossetter Ford and the Peoria Journal Star for many years. He was a mechanic for Peoria Disposal Co until his retirement. He was a member of the Teamsters.
Ted was a jack-of-all-trades, and master of most. Despite having only an eighth grade education, he had the mind of an engineer carefully planning each step of any project on which he was working. He built a playhouse for his grandchildren complete with electricity, drywall and flower boxes. He also built a miniature replica of a PDC garbage truck which was in the Peoria Santa Claus Parade for many years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and watching golf on TV. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. A “man’s man” his entire life, he was a devoted caregiver for his first wife when she became ill and, in the process, found a new passion for cooking and baking. His most cherished moments were the ones spent with his grandchildren. One of his final projects was working on an antique fire truck with his grandson.
