

GALESBURG - Eleanor J. Peterson, 90, of Galesburg passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg. She was born June 2, 1925, in Peoria, Ill., to O.G. and Ruth (Risinger) Hash. She married Lyle Peterson on March 1, 1946, at the First Methodist Church in Peoria, Ill. Surviving are her children, Linda (Bill) Johnson of Mackinaw, Ill., Dale (Kendi) Peterson of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and Jim (Chris) Peterson of Galesburg, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and sister, Jana Barra. Eleanor graduated from Woodruff High School in Peoria with the Class of 1943 and then graduated from Brown's Business College in Peoria. She worked as a receptionist and secretary for Dr. Kleinkauf and Dr. Babanory in Galesburg and then as a secretary for the Knox County Clerk's office in Galesburg until she retired in 1987. Upon retirement, she & Lyle had a wonderful time traveling in their pickup truck and fifth wheel trailer before returning to Galesburg, Ill. As a widow, Eleanor moved to Mackinaw, Ill., for 10 years before returning to Galesburg. Eleanor loved to read and was always burning through the stories. She was always delighted to visit with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge 894, both in Galesburg. Her life will be celebrated with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Parkview Cemetery, 2001 N. University St. in Peoria.
