
Girtha B. Montgomery, age 79, of Peoria, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013 at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Girtha was born on April 25, 1934 in Homan, Arkansas to Arthur and Geneva (Cornelius) Tyes. She married Calvin Montgomery on August 2, 1980 in Peoria. Girtha is survived by her husband, Calvin; her children, Juanita Burton of Peoria, IL, Nathaniel Burton of Tampa, FL, Girtha (Melvin) Harris of Hiram, GA, Daniel (Tanya) Burton of Peoria, IL, Rosalyn (Charlie) Hill of Peoria, IL, Matthew Burton of San Jose, CA, Melinda (Don) Stewart of Waco, TX, Timothy Burton of Peoria, IL, Tommy (Kumiko) Graham of Okinawa, Japan, Kelissa (Ismael) Ponce of Aurora, IL, Charles Montgomery of Peoria, IL and Michael Montgomery of Peoria, IL; Three sisters, Doris Torres & Mary Moland of Bakersfield, CA and Willie Mae Foster of Houston, TX, Three brothers, Samuel Henry & Lawrence Henry of Sacramento, CA, & Adolph Tyes Jr. of Bakersfield, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Mark Burton; four sisters and 1 brother. Girtha retired from Caterpillar. She and Calvin were foster parents for 15 years. She was a member of Star of Hope Full Gospel Church in Peoria, where she worked with the children’s choir & taught Sunday School. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, card games, gardening, and cooking. Services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11am at Star of Hope Full Gospel Church in Peoria with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Joseph H. Johnson will be officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials may be made to Senior World or Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. Arrangements handled by Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria.
