

She was born March 23, 1928 in Wood River, IL to Walter and Aline (Trabant) Hubbard. She moved to Peoria in 1946 to attend Bradley University. She married Allan H. Lurie, whom she met at Bradley, on Nov. 23, 1950 at Temple Anshai Emeth in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are her daughter, Celeste (and Jaime) Restrepo; two grandsons, Adam and Eric; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Yvette Lurie of France; many beloved cousins from Indiana; and her lifelong friends, Frances Dean Cornelsen and Louise Zeller. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Gloria graduated from Bradley University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Gloria was a very gifted artist and writer and a lover of classical and opera music. She worked with her friend Louise for over 15 years in the music department at Block & Kuhl Company in Peoria. She also was a longtime Jewish educator with her last 13 years prior to retirement as the principal of the Temple Anshai Emeth religious school.
She was a member of Peoria Historical Society, Friends of Flanagan House, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Glen Oak Neighborhood Association, Bradley Alumni Association and 50+ club, the Arthritis Foundation, Congregation Anshai Emeth, Congregation Anshai Emeth Sisterhood, the Jewish Federation of Peoria and Peoria Retired Teachers Association.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2014 at Temple Anshai Emeth, 5614 N. University Street in Peoria with Bonnie Fenton officiating. Visitation will be at the Temple from 12 to 2 p.m. Monday prior to services. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
