Gregory "Greg" Alan Hurt

Gregory Alan Hurt, 70, of Peoria, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, surrounded by his family. Greg was born on November 26, 1954, to his parents, Harry and Betty (Griffin) Hurt.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charlie and Denny; brothers-in-law, Bob Chepanoske and Jerry Boatman; and his son, Jacob.

Greg is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary (Reed); his son, Jason (Tiffany) Hurt and granddaughter, Audrey; his daughter Cori (Steve) Friedrich; his sisters, Brenda Chepanoske and Sheryl Boatman; and his sisters-in-law, Jean Hurt and Diane Hurt. He was also blessed with several nieces and nephews.

Greg served over 22 years in the U.S. Air Force taking his family on assignments that spanned all the way from Germany to Montana. He went on to serve another 14 years as a Peoria County Corrections Officer. After retiring from the Sheriff’s Office, he continued serving his community at Haddad’s West Peoria Market.

Greg was very proud of his family and loved spending time with them. He enjoyed working in the yard and cooking his favorite recipes from his mom. Greg had a knack for storytelling; those who were fortunate to meet him came to know and love his wit, humor, and generosity.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 10am with burial immediately following at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria (no visitation). Memorial donations may be made to Greater Peoria Honor Flight and OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
