Jeanne A. Platte Jones

Jeanne A. Jones (Platte) passed away on October 8, 2014 at Methodist Hospital. She was born February 26, 1918 in Peoria, Il to Joseph and Lena Platte. She was one of 15 children in the Platte family.

She married Clarence “Casey” E. Jones on August 12, 1942. Jeanne is survived by her son Terry (Cindy) Jones of Metamora, IL, son-in-law Emery Gaffney of Rogers, Arkansas, grandsons Darren Gaffney, Kevin Jones, Bryan Jones and Andrew Jones, and two great grandchildren Brett and Sydney Gaffney. Her bother Kenneth Platte survives in South Carolina. Her passing is preceded by her husband Clarence, daughter Leslie (Jones) Gaffney and one grandson. She was a lifelong resident of the Peoria and East Peoria area.

Jeanne was an outstanding softball player. She played on the best Peoria area teams for 26 years making several state and national tournament appearances. Outside of her family, she is most proud of being inducted into the Illinois Amateur Softball Association (A.S.A) Hall of Fame in 1983. Jeanne and her husband Clarence are the only husband and wife team elected to the Hall of Fame. Jeanne was elected as a catcher and Clarence as a coach.

She was a member of Riversedge United Methodist Church of Spring Bay for over 50 years. Her dedication and faith in Christ the Lord never faltered and was evident to the people around her. She was active in school activities, church events, an election judge for 25 years, member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club, the “Y” Dance Club and avid stamp collector. She was a dedicated follower of the Chicago Cubs. Jeanne was extremely close to her grandsons and enjoyed watching them in nearly every activity in which they participated. She will be greatly missed.

Services will be held at 11 am Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Rev. Andrew Hopp will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
