She was born Sep. 11, 1923 in Peoria to Frank and Effie (Cook) Colwell. She married Charles Tewell Dec. 7, 1946 in St. Louis, MO. He passed away March 31, 2006 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters: Imogene Witzig and Eloise McDonald.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon (James) Compton of Washington, two grandchildren: Julie (Damon) Knaff of Huntley, Jill Compton of Schaumburg, three great-grandchildren: Megan and Allison Knaff, Alyssa Crum, and one sister, Irene O’Neill of Prescott, AZ.
Joanne worked in the Cafeteria at Peoria Central High School for 36 years retiring in 1993. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Peoria.
Funeral services will be Wednesday Nov. 2, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Rev. Thomas Heren will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Peoria VFW or the American Heart Association.
