

He was born April 11, 1934 in Springfield, IL to John A. and Florence M. (Descarpentries) Coker. He married Lorna A. Kettner on February 27, 1953 at North Limestone Presbyterian Church in Peoria County. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his wife, Lorna of Peoria; two children, John C. Coker Ph.D. of Mobile, AL. and Cheryl L. (Dario) Duany Jr. of Parkland, Fl. Also surviving are two grandsons, Ross and Ryan Hurley and two step-granddaughters, Alyssa and Jennifer Duany all of Parkland, FL; two sisters, Ruth Negley of Pekin and Mary Jane Coker of Toronto, Canada; one brother, David (Mary) Coker of East Peoria and seven nieces and nephews.
John was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 979.
He was a member of Steamfitters Local 353 since February 1962 and retired in August 1993. He was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria.
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:30 am, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria. The Rev. Mark Nelson will officiate. Burial of the urn will follow the service at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
