Joseph W. Carlson, age 66, of East Peoria, passed away Saturday Oct. 12, 2013 at Northwestern Memorial Medical Center in Chicago. He was born March 28, 1947 in Belvidere, IL to Joseph and Burdette (Mitts) Carlson. He married Rebecca Dukes June 1, 1975 in Park Forest, IL. She survives along with one daughter, Rachael (Scott Spak) Carlson of Iowa City, one son, Jesse (Naomi Mark) Carlson of Chicago, one grandson, Lake Iver Spak, of Iowa City, two sisters: Joan (Frank) Demolli of Albuquerque, NM, Linda (Lonnie) Hoffman of Rockford, and one brother, Charles (Shirley) Carlson of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jean Nilsen, and brother-in-law, Clifton Nilsen. Joe was a parole agent and supervisor for the Department of Corrections for 28 years, retiring in 1997. He then worked as a counselor for children and their parents until 2009. He was a member of Congregation Anshai Emeth in Peoria. Funeral services will be Tuesday Oct. 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria.
