

He was born July 16, 1936 in Peoria to Roland and Bessie (Honold) Koeppel. He married Donna Jean Hageman Sep. 20, 1958 in Peoria. She survives along with two sons: Joseph R. (Chris) Koeppel of Peoria, Daniel P. (Alicia R.) Koeppel of Olive Branch, Miss., four grandchildren: Michael, Ashley, Jonathon, Jacquelyn, one brother, James A. Koeppel of Peoria, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roland Koeppel.
Joe served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1955 to 1963. He was a Master Carpenter for 20 years working out of Local 183. He also worked at Keystone and then was an Inspector for the City of Peoria for over 25 years retiring in 1989.
He was a lifelong member of St Ann’s Catholic Church in Peoria. Joe was Ordained Permanent Deacon by the Peoria Dioceses Bishop John Myers May 9, 1992. He was the Spiritual Director for the Watch Program at St. Ann’s, was active in Cursello and taught CCD.
Joe loved sports, he taught Little League when his kids were young, was active in Peoria area golf leagues, and bowled in the Peoria Brothers Tournament.
He was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 44 years.
Visitation will be Thursday Aug. 21, 2014 from 5 to 7 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. A Prayer Service will be Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Friday Aug. 22, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Peoria. Additional visitation will be Friday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.
Memorials may be made to St. Ann’s Church.
