Louis L. Meade

He was born August 18, 1918 in Alton, IL to Thomas O. and Pearl T (McCuen) Meade. He married Martha Fife on January 25, 1948 and she preceded him in death on October 11, 1983. He later married Viva D. Loucks on March 15, 1989 in Elmwood, IL. His parents, three brothers, two sisters and one grandson, Brian Umbarger also preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife Viva of Peoria, eight children, Roland (Ronnie) Meade of Saline, MI; Louis L. Meade Jr. of Grants Pass, OR; Gary (Bonnie) Meade of East Peoria; Theresa (Barry) Bankert of Canton, IL; Bruce (Sandy) Meade of Dyersburg, TN; Cathy (Wendell) Umbarger of Canton, IL; Kevin (Terry) Meade of Canton, IL and Lisa (Daniel) Strobridge of Fayetteville, N.C. Also surviving are two sisters, Clara L. Arrowsmith, and Norma J. Meade, 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Louis served in the U.S. Air Corp during W.W. II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked as the Produce Manager for A & P for several years and then as an Insurance Agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance before retiring in 1980. Louis returned to college in his 60’s and then worked last as a computer programmer at Sears for several years before retiring. He was a member of Dayton Ave. Baptist Church in Peoria and served as Treasurer for many years.

Cremation will be accorded and a visitation will be from 1 to 3 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria with a second visitation from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton. A memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton, IL. The Revs. K. Bruce Rushing and H.B. “Sunny” Mooney III will officiate. Burial of the urn will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
